Chicago beat down

Watching Papelbon blow Jim Thome away on three pitches at the tail end of Sunday night's 11-1 trashing of the White Sox, a thought struck me.

I wonder if the veteran players on the Sox, who had to endure 2005's playoff debacle against Chicago, had a little extra motivation this weekend against the Blacksox?

Think the current Red Sox side enjoyed their weekend on the south side of Chicago?

Boston just ran through Chicago like the proverbial knife through butter.

The White Sox looked very much like deer in the headlights as Boston pitched, hit and ran well all weekend long. Papelbon's dominating three strikeout end of the series inning on Sunday night put a massive exclamation mark on what looks like a team gearing up for a strong playoff run.

As Boston looks forward to meeting up with the Yankees on Tuesday, one can't help thinking they really enjoyed getting a small measure of revenge on the White Sox. They sure played like it.

Tuesday can't come fast enough.
