So, did you know Josh Beckett could throw 100mph? No? Neither did I. I always assumed Beckett was in the 93-97 range with his fastball.
In yesterdays 9-2 Boston win over Seattle, Beckett displayed a little something maybe a few batters weren't aware of. It looks innocuous enough in the play by play.
A Beltre struck out swinging.
What that basically informative but minimalist description fails to get through to the reader is that the pitch was like Tara Reid at 3am on a Saturday night after twelve cocktails. Filthy. Whatever about the fact that it was 100mph it was also down and moving away from the hapless Beltre. He simply didn't have a chance.
Beckett has been 'must watch TV' for Red Sox fans all year. He is now 'Must watch even if it is on the West Coast and it's about 3am Irish time', which is hallowed ground normally saved for the playoffs.
