Panic stations? Not just yet..

Tough loss last night, but, if you are a Red Sox fan, two things to consider before slamming your sweaty little palm down on ye olde panic button.

First of all, Schilling looked great. 93 mph high heat? Say what? Where on earth did that come from? He looked strong, poised and, for the large part, in control. Put it this way, could Boston have landed a better free agent starter? Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling, Wakefield and Lester. Possibly the best rotation in the American League one through five? It's definitely right up there anyway.

Secondly, I can't state this any clearer than I am about to. The Yankees have spent a month fattening their artificial record on total dross (sorry, Kansas, Chicago et al). The New York Yankees, until this series against Toronto, had not played a team with a winning record since July third. That is over a month ago!

You would expect that they would make some headway. They have played their part, but now must face better pitching and lineups for the next few weeks. No more cupcakes, or at least fewer than they have been feasting on recently.

It will all even itself out.
