Mailbag 17-12-07
Reading the mail this Monday morning
In the bag; Lorcan loves the German language, da Bears, 'Huppa, Huppa, Huppa', Baseball Ireland winter training and the college football bowl season

'Huppa Huppa Huppa!'

Check this incredible goal out. Superb finish by the Arsenal super striker Adebayor. Almost as entertaining as the finish is the hilarious commentary. What language is that?! Ewok?!

Thanks for passing that on, Dad

Irish Baseball winter training

New Irish Adult Baseball league coordinator (sounds like a made up position in some banana republic's government) Eoin O'Connor sent on the dates for winter training. Eoin's appintment is great news for Irish baseball, he's full of energy and great ideas. Find out all you need to know about the winter training sessions here.

Dates for winter training below.

8 dates listed below.
2nd ,9th ,16th February , 1st, 8th , 15th , 22nd, 29th, March
Time: 11am - 1.30pm

Dad on the Bears

I love the candidness of this Chicago Bear when asked why their season
has gone pear shaped.

-- ''We asked defensive end Alex Brown what's gone wrong. "We're just not
very good," he said honestly.''

Lorcan loves German

I don't really have an introduction for this, except that it is awesome.

''Gotta say, I'm a big fan of German loan words in the English language. Always liked the idea of having words like schadenfreude, such a complex notion confined neatly in a single word. Another good one is weltschmerz. Literal translation, world pain. Depression over the state of the world....like how the Jets will be feeling Monday. Zeitgeist is another...time ghost - the spirit of the times. "Vegas took HGH in keeping in accordance with the current sporting zeitgiest."

Ubermensch, poltergeist, wunderkind, wanderlust, gesundheit, putsch, bildungsroman, angst, doppleganger achtung schnitzel.''
Boise State and College Football bowl season

Dave in Boston writes in;

''How excited are you for Bowl season?''

I would have to say, very. If the bowl games are anything as exciting as the insane 2007 regular season, we're in for a treat.

Need a reminder on how unbelievably exciting some of the bowl games are?

Here ya go.

Garrett and the Rocket

Finally, Ireland's biggest Red Sox fan (I am only second, and a distant second too) writes in;

''If you look closely, you can see me in the crowd…
Well maybe not see me, but I was there…''

Bowl games used to awesome when they played about 12 of them on New Year's Day. I literally looked forward to it more than the Super Bowl (back when the NFC team would stomp the AFC team).

Now, it's so spread out, only gambling degenerates get up for one every night. Personally, I get upset when the first Bowl on the 1st is at 4:00 in the afternoon and it's only one of two games.
