Hurricanes win their league opener

The Dublin City Hurricanes won their league opener against Indios, 8-3 today at wet and windy Corcaigh Park. The Hurricanes trailed early against a feisty Indios side led by former Hurricanes Alex Bettancourt. The 'Canes righted their ship with patient at bats and began to pile up the runs while shutting Indios down from the third inning on. Tom Kelley, Chris Foy and Eric 'Vegas' Valkys had good at bats and scored runs while the Hurricanes defence was rock solid all afternoon.

Indios are a good little side and showed plenty of life in the opener, they will cause problems for teams all season long.

The game was called ably in a no-fuss manner by veteran pitcher/umpire Bill Beglane and both teams completely ignored the yucky weather conditions to turn in a very high level game of baseball.

And so the 2008 season begins for the Dublin City Hurricanes. 1-0. It's a start.
