Bartolo on the way?

Looks like Big Bartolo Colon might be dishing from the mound at Fenway Park sooner than some expected. The Boston Globe is reporting he was throwing 95mph last night for Pawtucket in a rehab assignment at the AAA level. Last time I checked, 95mph is a big league fastball. Most interesting were reports that he was painting the corners and in command the entire time he was out there. Check out this nifty line from the game in question.

I suppose the jury is out until he pitches to big league hitter, however this is a very positive development. Imagine the boost a healthy, focuses Bartolo Colon would give to the Red Sox starting rotation a giant boost.

Bartolo is no spring chicken (He actually has the same birthday as me, funnily enough!) however he is also certainly not over the hill either. If anything he may be ready to embark on the final productive stretch of his long and remarkable career. Where better to do that than from the mound at Fenway Park, where his hero, Pedro Martinez, used to deal.

Bottom line, when healthy, Bartolo is a great pitcher, he led the AL in wins as recently as 2005.

95mph sure sounds healthy.

I look forward to tuning into the big guys first start for the Sox. It's coming soon.
