Here's the deal. Over the next couple of months I am going to crudely single out all but four teams and label them audaciously as having zero chance of winning the World Series. What will this arrogance get me? Nothing bar a torrent of abuse in the event I get it wrong and one of the chosen schmubs turns out to be the World Series champs. Let's start insulting people!
This sorry bunch are on a pace to lose a whopping 95 games. They have won a pathetic 17 games to date, for a sickly looking .378 winning percentage. They are already 11.5 games back in their division. They are a paltry 6-13 on the road. They have lost five in a row and are second last in MLB having scored a measly 159 runs. Their staff ace? 0-8 with a 6.25 era. Pretty much the only person rooting for them right now is Tom Brady.
They are the 2008 San Francisco Giants.
The Giants are an absolute train wreck. The Barry Zito (he of the 0-8 record) is really only the tip of the proverbial ice berg. The Giants are in an unholy mess of a situation. They can't score runs with their anemic lineup, and if Timmy Linecum isn't pitching they really haven't much chance at all. Think about it, they have won 13 games and he has accounted for 5 of those wins. Imagine the situation if he gets hurt?
They are batting .257 as a team with only 27 home runs, as a team! Chase Utley nearly has that many on his own already. A pitcher, Matt Cain, is three homers away from the team lead. There is zero continuity to their lineup, manager Bruce Bochy has used 40 lineups in 41 games. These guys can barely pitch and it would appear no opposing pitcher should be too fearful of facing their Punch and Judy lineup.
Ladies and gentlemen, the San Francisco Giants are NOT going to win the 2008 World Series!

And yeah, the Giants are rotten. The do have a few promising arms (Lincecum, Cain, Lowry), but mans is that offense terrible. And Zito is a disaster.
