ESPN's Jayson Stark - the best baseball writer on the planet right here, right now?

Continuing on the theme of good/great baseball writers. I remember sitting on a park bench overlooking the water in Harbour Point, Dorchester in '99 ploughing through a mammoth, entertaining Peter Gammons piece in the Boston Globe. I had a 'meatball grinder' sub, an ice cold 'Snapple' and tickets to Fenway for that evening with nowhere else to be and nothing else to do. Life was good.

After Gammons kind of, hung up his cleats, or, retreated to the very annoying subscription only ESPN 'Insider', a huge void appeared. Sometimes, a void is there to be filled. Enter Jayson Stark.

I have never enjoyed reading Jayson Stark as much as I have this season. For me, he is right now the most interesting and entertaining baseball writer online.

Take for example his excellent 'first-half' awards piece on ESPN. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

You're welcome!
