Ireland 4 Russia 5

Brave Irish comeback falls just short against Russians

Well, another close fought battle and another tight loss for Ireland.

Down 4-2 in the ninth Ireland came back strong (as they always do!)

Ireland’s tough-as-nails catcher Jason Hoye made it very close with a ninth inning solo shot home run. Hoye, who has two home runs in two games is absolutely tearing the tournament up so far with the bat.

With two out Ireland refused to go down quietly and both Hurricanes star Tommy Hernandez and Doug Anglin reached base putting the tying run on second. Second base veteran Darran O'Connor reached on an error and Tommy scored and suddenly Ireland were tied. Sadly the Russian pitcher managed to wiggle out of further damage. The game was tied at 4-4.

Russia would go on to score the winning run in the tenth inning.

Tip of the cap to pitcher Sean Finn, Ireland’s twenty year old pitching prospect who clearly gave his all, pitching today. Sean induced a whopping twelve ground ball outs and finished his hard days work with a strike out. Finn only came out in the ninth after throwing an amazing 136 pitches and with the score tied at 4-4.

Ireland plays Greece tomorrow at 11am Irish time.
