Top five potentially drool worthy World Series matchups: Number five!

Playoff baseball! Yes!

If you love baseball, and you love playoffs, this is the best time of the year EVER. Playoff baseball! It's just billions of fun, from the frigid air, the batters wearing balaclavas, the colourful bunting and a bouncing, energetic Fenway crowd, playoff baseball, in a word, rocks.

As we move into the most exciting part of the baseball season, one wonders, what is the best possible World Series matchup for 2008? Bear in mind this is a list of the best, most enjoyable and indeed most watchable World Series matchups. Not the most likely to occur by any stretch.

Let's chop it up.

Top five potentially drool worthy World Series matchups: Number five!

Milwaukee v Tampa Bay

Underdog heaven. Apart from the fact that this would be the lowest rated World Series since time began, this would actually be a treat of a finals. Two feisty teams who generally play solid, fundamentally sound baseball. What would be most appealing from a baseball fans point of view would be the incredible array of young talent. Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford and many others. The pitching wouldn't be bad either. Milwaukee would have to fancy their chances with big CC Sabathia whilst the Devil Rays (I refuse to drop the 'Devil'!) would fancy their chances with Kazmir, Garza and Shields.

Prince Fielder

Sure, ESPN might not even have this as their top headline, you could see game three getting lost behind a headline about Boo Weekley mooning a French tourist or something, however it would be a tasty matchup of two talented underdogs.

Worst thing about the playoffs? The matchup in Anaheim is starting at 3.07am on Thursday. I may just have to make alternative arrangements so I can sleep from 8pm - 3am, then I'll be frsh as a daisy apres Lester beating the Angels!
