The Tigers and the City

Check out this great article by ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on how The Detroit Tigers and their players are playing for every citizen of the city of Detroit, as they scratch and scrape their way into the playoffs.

It grabs you right from the opening paragraph and doesn't let go;

''The Detroit Tigers talk frequently about their obligation to lift the spirits of a downtrodden city in economically troubled times. Their professional responsibilities are magnified by the need to run out balls, play with passion and assume the role of social healers in a town that's badly in need of a hug.''

Timely reminded that sports journalism in the States is alive and well, it hasn't all been reduced to re-hashed, slap-dash 50 word 'articles' thrown together without any thought.

Nice work, Mr Crasnick.
