Irish weather and baseball just don't mix

Do you have any idea how hard it is to play baseball in the rain? No? Well, come to Ireland and try your hand at it! Irish weather, simply put, blows. This has been the worst summer weather wise in living memory. It has been constantly either grey and drab or it has been pouring rain. There have been about five or six nice, sunny days. That's no exaggeration. It has been horrendous.

Needless to say, this makes baseball pretty tricky.

Chris Foy, Tom Kelley and Steve Divito wait out another rain delay at the O'Malley baseball fields, Corcaigh Park, Dublin. More pictures from the wet Saturday the 18th here.

Pitching in the rain is like trying to use two fingers to pick up a wet watermelon seed. Batting in the rain is no fun either. Standing in the field in the rain, well, you get the picture. My club side the Dublin Hurricanes had a weekend double header against the veteran Belfast Northstars team on Saturday the 18th. We prevailed 22-7 in the first game under constant showers. The second game was called after about two innings thanks to heavy downpours.

See if you can pick out home plate! The rain sodden home plate area at the O'Malley baseball fields, Corcaigh Park, Dublin. More pictures from the wet Saturday the 18th here.

The Hurricanes and Spartans meet this coming Saturday in a crucial Irish league fixture at 11am at the O'Malley Fields. The weather has actually been decent since yesterday, but you just never know. Here's to global warming and melting ice caps. Gotta love that rain.
