Here's the deal. Over the next couple of months I am going to crudely single out all but four teams and label them audaciously as having zero chance of winning the World Series. What will this arrogance get me? Nothing bar a torrent of abuse in the event I get it wrong and one of the chosen schmubs turns out to be the World Series champs. Let's start insulting people!
If the season had ended on April 9th, this team might have had a shot at the World Series. At that point this team were 6-2 and cruising. Since then they have slimped badly including a horrendous twelve game losing streak. This terrible, terrible club are last in the big leagues in runs scored, homers, extra-base hits and walks.
Ladies and gentlemen, it does not take Yoda to work out that the Kansas Royals are not going to win the 2008 World Series. In retrospect I should have placed these chug monkeys last behind San Francisco, because at least SF have some decent young talent, particularly in terms of pitching.
Kansas are just brutal. They are second worst in the Majors in runs scored, with an abysmal 234 (compared to 361 by the leaders, Texas). They are already 15.5 games out of first place, and simply don't have the players that would even suggest they might make a healthy run. For Kansas, what is a healthy run anyway, a three game win streak? Just a poor, poor baseball club with very little cause for optomism in the next couple of seasons. God, I am depressed just writing about them, imagine rooting for them!
